Battalion Chief Rob Marcoff Retires

Retirement happy 1000x667

The City of Cornelius and Fire Department say thank you and congratulations to Battalion Chief Rob Marcoff upon his retirement December 31, 2022.  Rob has been employed by Northwest Natural Gas for many years and joined the Cornelius Fire Department as a volunteer in October of 1999.  Through continued hard work and much dedication to the community, Rob rose through the ranks as a volunteer and eventually became a volunteer Battalion Chief.

Through the years, Rob showed his dedication to our department by selflessly giving thousands of hours of his time. This included sleeping many a night at the firehouse as part of a duty crew.

Rob had a very good knowledge of vehicle mechanics. Because he was skilled in this area, he helped to provide vehicle maintenance which meant large cost savings to the fire department budget.  His knowledge of mechanics also made Rob the right person to provide training to aspiring fire apparatus operators. Because of Rob’s knowledge in the natural gas business, Rob was often sought out by PCC and other fire departments to teach and train in this field.

Rob was very active not only as a firefighter, but as a member of the Cornelius Firefighters Association, serving as the association president for some time. Rob often organized or assisted with various events such as the annual crab feed, pancake breakfast events, the awards banquets, and Christmas festivities.

For the last many years, Rob assumed the role and responsibility in Cornelius and Forest Grove and surrounding areas as duty chief on a rotational basis. This has provided a much needed respite to the other chiefs who share the rotation.

For many firefighters, Chief Marcoff has been a source for advice and has acted as a mentor and friend to the fire service and to the community he served for many years.

Battalion Chief Marcoff’s last day at the fire department was December 31, 2022.
